Work-Based Learning

Work-Based Learning allows students to explore career interests while earning high school credit. Employers and the high school collaborate to provide on-site career training and preparation for Juniors and Seniors. Students experience in-depth, first-hand engagement with tasks required of the chosen career field, and these experiences are aligned to Western's curriculum, instruction, and program standards. Depending on the type of learning experience, the student may be engaged for one hour, one day, one semester, or even one year.

Our Career Readiness Center, housed in B115, provides numerous opportunities for students to explore post-secondary choices. Career readiness opportunities may include short-term engagements such as mock interviews, job shadows, and guest speakers. The Work-based Learning Coordinator works closely with the Dean of Students to help students determine their post-secondary path and to begin exploring these options during their high school years.
